Get Summertime Fine the Quirky Girl Way

If you are anything like me, you would rather strut down a fiery runway with gasoline soaked panties than to workout. Although working out may not always be an activity that makes you jump for joy, it’s an important habit to develop that can definitely lead to a heathier and longer life. The other day I walked up a flight of stairs on campus and let’s just say, “The struggle was real”. I was out of breath in no time and that’s when I thought, “This is BS. I have to take control of my life.” So if you want to be bootylicious and slay all summer long, keep reading to find out how you can turn heads the Quirky Girl way:

Don’t Try to Be Perfect

Rule number one: Don’t expect to run a ten mile marathon just because you ate an apple today. There is beauty in the struggle of getting in shape. Enjoy the journey as you physically (and metaphorically!) climb your way to the top. If you begin your fit journey with an attitude of positivity and self-love, you will have a much better chance of success. Look at yourself in the mirror and say, “I love who I am”. A fit journey isn’t about changing who you are, it’s about becoming the best version of yourself. So before you throw yourself down on the floor as you look at Beyonce’s thighs as you painstakingly wonder “Why was I not born with these thighs!?” keep in mind that everyone has something they would change about themselves. As much as I love Beyonce, I must admit that even she has flaws that she probably wishes she could change. Its human nature and completely normal. Don’t look at these things as negative attributes or “flaws”, look at them as your unique qualities that make you who you are. You are already #flawless.

Put a Spin On It

I’m the type of person who won’t touch a salad with a ten foot pool. If someone says, “salad” during any discussion of food, I immediately get the urge to drop the mic and walk away. Despite the blood curdling scream that I let out whenever I hear the word “healthy”, eating healthy doesn’t have to be terrible at all. Two words: Oven fried. If you are in love with fried foods like I am, you can easily recreate your favorite dishes. Products such as, Shake and Bake and Lawry’s Oven Fried mix, are fantastic for getting your crunchy fix without all of the calories. Easy oven fried chicken can be made by dredging chicken breasts in flour, egg, and breadcrumbs. Pre-heat the oven to 375 degrees and place the coated chicken on a baking sheet. Cook for 20 minutes or until chicken is golden brown.

Work it Like You Mean It!

Get it girl and don’t hold back! Don’t be afraid to be a beast when it comes to exercise. Start small with activities, such as a brisk 30 minute walk. Once you feel like you’ve become stronger, gradually upgrade to more strenuous workouts. One of the number one negative things people say about exercise is it’s boring, however, it doesn’t have to be boring. Channel your inner Naomi Campbell and strut on that treadmill like you mean it. Switch it up! As long as you are moving and getting your heart rate pumping, you are making progress. It doesn’t matter if you’re playing interactive sports games on the WiiU or hiking up a set of stairs when you have an extra 5 minutes, just get moving! A few heart-pumping exercises that I like are kickboxing, running, hiking and jumping jacks.

Live your life

At the end of the day, you are beautiful and don’t ever let anyone tell you otherwise. Enjoy living life and ultimately be happy with who you are. It’s okay to admire people for their beauty or amazing qualities that they may possess, but never lose sight of who you are and what you bring to the table. Don’t have a shape like Beyonce? That’s okay because your beautiful personality shines and lights up the world. Not tall like a runway model? That’s okay too because you can dress to kill and slay all day. Do you boo and never give up.
